The rapid reaction of a US Navy pilot saved himself and his plane from a collision in the Indian Ocean after a “catastrophic failure” occurred aboard his plane while landing during landing, documents show.
The Super Hornet pilot was returning back to the deck when he felt something was drastically wrong. A wire had snapped, and its aircraft is rolling from the deck. Its aircraft fell to as little as 16 meters above the water Before drawing to the maximum business.
Documents obtained from Business Insider for the previously reported incident in November 2023 said that the pilot, a lieutenant, whose name was edited, showed extraordinary skills that not only saved his life but also his aircraft 60 million dollars. The whole incident played in just less than 20 seconds, looking for quick thinking.
In the nearby time, the maritime avator was flying a fighter based in the F/A-18e Super Horn based by Boeing F/A-18e with a Strike Fighter Fighter Squadron 83 and entered the plane carrier board USS DWIGHT D. Eisenhower in a Middle East in a Middle East in a Middle East War Fulfillment.
On November 27, the pilot was coming for a routine landing when one of the arrest wires once rapidly slow down the planes down on the flight deck “suffered a catastrophic failure” that made her return after the fighter jet was tied on it.

Niminzz grade carrier decks are equipped with four wires of flexible-cable, steel tense by an engine-which extend along the flight deck for the tail hook of a plane to catch the landing. The wires are created to bring planes to a stop in just a few seconds, given the limited runway space. They are absolutely essential to keeping aircraft outside the ocean.
Before the wire failure, the arrest coating slowed the pilot plane from a landing speed of 136 knots in 80 nodes, according to one of the documents. He said the pilot “executed the procedures in accordance with the carrier’s landings by advancing his shocks in the military power after the touch.”
The pilot immediately felt something was wrong. After the aircraft reached its minimum speed, it immediately pushed the shock to the maximum business to gain as much push as possible. The aircraft rotated from the end of the carrier angle deck with a low hazardous speed of 88 joints. A fighter jet normally cleanses the deck at about 150 knots.
The pilot’s super horne fell from the bottom, hitting a maximum sink rate of 738 meters a minute while the rear followers were engaged. He reported to see height, which measures the height, at just 20 meters above the water, although maintenance data reveals that its lowest height was between 16 and 32 meters above the surface.
The pilot arranged his plane in an optimal flight position before pulling and creating a positive climbing rate. He had just avoided the clash in the Indian Ocean.

A recommendation for the award by his squadron commander received by Bi said that “sound execution of aviator procedures, steadfast nerve and excellent hostility undoubtedly saved his life and plane”, adding that “his actions enabled directly the recovery of the plane the next day and its subsequent launch in support of the internal expansion operation, “referring to the US Army mission against ISIS.
The maritime avator was recommended for the air medal (single mission) from his superiors for his actions, and the recommendation was approved.
Tight calls like that in November 2023 are not uncommon, and US marine aviators have suddenly found themselves close to water in past incidents. Sixteen -legs are particularly close, however.
The November 2023 incident occurred during the establishment of months of the Eisenhower Carrier Groves in the Middle East, where he led the army’s response to rebellious attacks backed by Iran Houthi in the Red Sea and Adeni carriages.
Yemen rebels had just started their campaign at the time. Since then they have launched over 140 missile attacks and drones on the trading ship and have been targeted by Navy warships more than 170 times.
